E-petition
You can sign an e-petition by following this link - it's no substitute for a paper petition but time is short and it's worth trying every avenue.
Your Help is (Urgently) Requested
On 16th September 2009, the local news programme mentioned that North Somerset Council is contemplating closing Congresbury Library (along with those in Banwell and Nailsea) as a cost-cutting measure.
On 17th September, I received a message from the Parish Clerk, Jo Duffy, to say that this was up for discussion by the council on 22nd September - next week. Plenty of notice, then! The news also appeared in the North Somerset Mercury (same date).
There is a copy of the Report to Council available on line: here is the link, if you would like more information. The nitty gritty is, however, that they seem to feel that we can easily use Yatton library. No mention is made of the lack of public transport from Congresbury to Yatton and back which would allow those of us not fit enough to make the journey on foot, nor of the increase in car journeys along roads already choked by traffic jams on a regular basis.
At the moment, we can take our children to the library on the way home from school - on two days a week, anyway, when it is open at the right time.
We need to fight this proposed closure, and we have very little time in which to do so. In 1993 we managed to save the library by collecting a massive number of signatories to a petition in the course of a weekend, and the timescale we have means the same level of response in the same timescale is necessary. Can you help?
